How to do Long Multiplication

616 × 25

This is quite difficult to do all in one step.
The long multiplication method breaks this up into easier steps:
To find 25 lots of 616, first find 5 lots of 616, and then find the other 20 lots.
Finally add together the 5 lots and the 20 lots. This gives us our answer...
In the first step we find 5 lots of 616 and write our answer in the first line

In the second step we need to find the remaining 20 lots of 616. To do this, we put a zero on the right-hand side of the second line. Then we multiply 616 × 2. We write our answer on the left of the zero in the second row. Note that putting in a zero (on the right of our answer to 616 × 2) means that our answer in this line is actually 616 × 20.
